The marriage declaration in the region of administrative unit Ljubljana
1. Registration of marriage
The future married couple registers at the administrative unit Ljubljana, sector for administrative internal affairs, department for registry affairs in Ljubljana at Adamič Lundrovo nabrežje 2, in the room for the reception of clients in the ground floor, where they get detailed information about the marriage declaration and free dates.
Office hours:
From Monday to Thursday 8AM – 5PM
On Friday 8AM – 1PM
2. Pieces of evidence that the future husband and wife need to enclose in their registration form, if they are foreigners (the same also goes if only one of them is a foreigner)
For the marriage declaration to be possible, the future spouses who are not from Slovenia, need to enclose:
- passport
- a copy of birth certificate
- information about witnesses to a marriage
- certificate of marital status
- certificate of the country of origin, so that there are no obstacles for the future spouses to get married
The copies and certificates have to be issued for the usage in the international traffic, meaning that they have to be verified and translated into Slovene. The copies can be issued on an international form, if the country is a signer of a Parisian or Vienna convention. The copies and other documents must not be older than 6 months, except if the documents are issued in the countries, where the copies can only be issued once and prove only one registry fact and not a personal status. If the future spouse or a witness to a marriage does not understand Slovene, the official translator or interpreter has to be present at the registration and marriage declaration.
3. Marriage declaration at Ljubljana Castle
There are two official rooms in the Ljubljana Castle that are meant for the marriage declaration in the region of administrative unit Ljubljana. These are the blue and the white hall. For the declaration of marriage in the official places you can register no more than 3 months and no less than 14 days before the intended declaration of marriage. When the future spouses decide for the free date, a record of marriage registration is composed and the administrative tax to the amount of 31.91 EUR must be payed. Marriages in the official places at Ljubljana Castle are declared:
- on Wednesdays from 11AM – 4PM
- on Saturdays from 9AM – 6PM
4. Marriage declaration outside the official places
For the marriage declaration outside the official places and out of hours meant for the official places, the future married couple can register no more than 3 months and no less than 45 days before the intended marriage declaration. When they register, they need to pay an administrative tax to the amount of 49.64 EUR. The couple is informed about the answer to an application with a written order.
With a written application form, in which they list important reasons, the future married couple makes a request for marriage declaration outside official places. The important reasons that excuse marriage declaration outside the official places are those that make it impossible for the future married couple to be present in the official places. Such marriage declaration does not present bigger expenses for the future married couple.
With regard to the possibilities of the administrative unit, the declaration of marriage outside the official places and out of hours meant for the official places, can also be permitted for other reasons that the future married couple lists in their written application form. The application form must (beside the demanded documents) also contain the consent for the usage of location for the solemn declaration of marriage. Such declaration presents bigger expenses that have to be covered by the future married couple. The additional expenses are determined with a written order, with which the marriage declaration is permitted. The means for covering the expenses are transfered to the subaccount of AU Ljubljana and need to be covered at least 5 days before the intended marriage declaration.
For the official act of declaring marriage outside the official places, the future married couple must provide a table and a proper number of chairs for the participants. On the table there has to be a wedding ring holder and flower decor. According to regulations, there also has to be a state symbol.
Possible dates for the marriage declaration outside the official places are on Saturdays by turns:
Town hall – every other Saturday from 2PM
Polhov Gradec manor house – the first and third Saturday of the month from 3PM, the second and forth Saturday from 1PM.
Turjak Castle – the first and third Saturday of the month from 1PM, the second and forth Saturday of the month from 3PM.
On the fifth Saturday of the month, ceremonies at uncommon locations at the Polhov Gradec manor house and Turjak Castle are not possible.
